C is for Creed (A Month of Toshie the Hero Blog Posts)

“Clear mind,” was all Creed said.

We’re moving on to our first non-Goblin character! I hope I didn’t give you the impression that Toshie the Hero and the Orbs of Destiny only featured Goblins.
Creed shows up in Book 3 and is a Kaerin Mystic.
Karein are a race of frog-like people who first appear in Book 1. Their name comes from the Japanese word kaeru, meaning ‘frog’. However, their homeland of Kamoto combines Japanese and British inspirations.
A Mystic–and this is not the final name for the Class–focuses on breathing techniques and martial arts. Monk is the closest “”classical"" RPG character type, but not exactly. I’m not sure if I like the name Mystic, but it is my work in progress, and I am open to feedback if there are some issues with the name.
That’s one thing I’m trying my best to work on. I want to incorporate many sources from the world in making this fantasy world, but also not be insensitive. It’s hard because everyone has so many different experiences and feelings on things. But I also didn’t want to write about a bunch of white men in a fantasy world, either. (This is why the titular Hero is a woman. But we’ll get to her much later in the alphabet.)
Anyway, I digest.
Creed is an older, experienced Mystic training another character, who will be introduced later in the alphabet.
As I wrote Book 1, and even more so in Books 2 and 3, I discovered that Toshie the Hero is about parent-child relationships–the good and the bad. While not as central to the theme, found family is also part of it.
Creed is a mentor – another form of family.
