Games I Beat in 2025: 19 — Unavowed

This was a surprise.
I've been a fan of this genre since I played Maniac Mansion on my Commodore 64. But I had no gaming PC as a kid, so I didn't play the other SCUMM games until recently. So, I'm not the Adventure Game Master that one might imagine, but I have a soft spot for them.
So, Unavowed. I didn't know what to expect, but a party-based adventure game was neat as hell. Sure, Maniac Mansion had you select your party, and the game played out differently based on who you chose. But instead of splitting the party, which I'm told you should never do, Unavowed has you pick who to use on each mission, and it changes what puzzles are available to you or how you solve them. It also helps that the puzzles require thinking but are neither hard nor obtuse. (Granted, one time I didn't get something because I was doing the order wrong.) And the story is enjoyable.
The characters stand too straight, though. That mostly pissed me off because it made me feel like I had terrible posture.
Being able to pick the main character's profession at the start added for some little moments of dialogue choice changes, so that implies replayability — along with doing missions with different characters — but I'm unsure if that's enough to have me replay the game soon. Not that it's bad! I'd have to be in the mood for it because of my backlog. One that also now includes this dev's other adventure games.
