Romayne is another Stranger who first appears in Book 2. Unlike many other Strangers, who arrive alone, she appeared with Jules. She was assigned the Class of Archer, which frustrates her because her aim is terrible. The Sun isn’t always great at assigning the right Class. What can you do?
Romayne speaks like I did in college, which is to say nearly every other word is ‘fuck’. Bad habit. I’m trying to break it. I’m worried my son’s first word will be ‘fuck’. But I’m from New Jersey. It’s a greeting there.
When she and Jules meet the Cloaked Figure in the desert, she’s very quiet and suspicious of the figure who claims to be there to help them. As the story progresses, Romayne opens up, and through my writing, I found a character who I thought was abrasive at first, but is slowly becoming one of my favorites.
It’s scary when you come up with a character for one reason, and then they start giving you things to think about. Writing is catharsis, which is one reason I do it.
Look forward to meeting Romayne in Book 2. She’s a pistol, as some might say.
