“I believe,” Glenda looked around, ensuring no other servants were nearby. “I believe the Empress is using the Orb. For what purpose, I cannot say, but it is draining away her Life Essence.”
Glenda is a maid at the Empress’s Castle in Kamoto. She first appears in Book Two, helping our main characters discern why the Empress is frail and what she is scheming to do with the Orb.
While Toshie the Hero is pitched as an isekai fantasy series, I can’t help but introduce mysteries in each book. I hope not to leave any unsatisfying plot points unsolved at the end, but some mysteries remain forever. But the more I write, the more I can’t think of any story I enjoyed that didn’t have some “mystery” to it.
How much of a role Glenda plays is something I’d like to keep secret, but similar to Apfel, having characters in various positions and ranks of the world leads to interesting ways to play with how characters interact, learn from one another, and develop relationships with one another.
Toshie the Hero and the Orbs of Destiny is available now!
Books 2 and 3 will be released in 2025.
