This was a weird one. It kept popping up in my recommendations and was discounted to ¥66, and I figured how wrong things could go.
It’s a straightforward game. There may be ten types of enemies, and puzzles follow the same pattern: "Find the button or key, and get out of the area." The main character can walk, jump, dash, and swing their sword two ways: A regular swing, which knocks back some enemies, and holding up, which swings so that some enemies are tossed up in the air, where you can meet them with a jump and then jam the attack button until they die.
There is exploration where you talk to the various NPCs to find where you need to go. It’s extremely simple to the point where there are no game saves. You can, however, pick any of the five stages from the start. Trophies are awarded for completing stages and completing them with less than ten deaths. That’s it. That’s the game.
Still, it controlled well enough on the Steam Deck and was a fun little distraction. It reminded me of older random games I’d play when buying bulk Famicom carts. Only not as difficult or unwieldy.
I’ve definitely wasted money and time on worse things, but this is the kind of indie game that delights me—something that someone made.
